Nuclear Cardiology

The nuclear cardiology laboratory at Duke strives for excellence in clinical service, research, and teaching in the field of cardiovascular nuclear medicine imaging.
 
Procedures offered:

  • SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging studies
  • Radionuclide angiocardiography
  • Positron Emission Tomography combined with with cardiac computed tomography (PET/CT) for multimodality imaging
 
Approximately 5,000 procedures are performed each year.
 
The PET facility was awarded Duke's Star Service Excellence awards for two consecutive years.
 
Our nuclear laboratory is currently a core laboratory for a sub-study of the largest study funded by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (the Heart Failure Action Study).
 
 
Facilities

The nuclear cardiology and cardiac PET laboratories are equipped with 4 SPECT cameras and 1 SPECT CT camera. The cardiac PET facility has 1 PET CT unit in a dedicated PET unit.
